Sheriff's Office Proceeds With Inquest Over Wii

advertisement

A local TV station is reported to have a video showing deputies playing Wii bowling at a suspect's home while executing a search warrant.

The following is a comment/review that I submitted to The Metro (London) after originally reading the story:

Keith--Excellent pun! (response to another post)

In all seriousness, this is not a major issue. These officers work long hours and deal with a lot of stress. Taking a minute to blow a little steam is not a big deal. I see it as the equivalent of "morgue humor" where something that may seem odd or even unprofessional to an outsider is merely a (rather healthy) way of coping with distressing and stressful situations. This is a common occurrence on the job, it's just that officers (and other first responders) know that there is a time and place for it and therefore it is rarely seen or heard by the general public. On this rare instance there happened to be a surveillance camera and therefore the officer(s) was seen blowing off a little steam. No harm, no foul.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Whoops...

I'm still new to Newsvine and I posted the comment I wrote for this story when I first read it (in The Metro) to the summary area. I had intended to post it here in the comment area with an explanation of h its origin. I apologize for any confusion this may cause.
